Brett Alcala
Brett Alcala has been practicing law in California since 1986. He is an experienced securities attorney and a registered investment advisor. He leads a team of legal and financial experts with extensive backgrounds in the securities industry. Since 1996, Brett Alcala has focused his law practice on the handling of securities disputes between investors and financial professionals such as stockbrokers, investment advisors and banks.
In 1997, Brett Alcala was approved to serve as an arbitrator by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), now known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the independent regulator responsible for all securities firms and stockbrokers operating in the United States.
Brett Alcala founded the Alcala Law Firm in 1999 to further expand his securities litigation, arbitration and mediation practice. Mr. Alcala has helped investors recover millions of dollars in investment losses through litigation, arbitration and mediation. Mr. Alcala's excellent track record has led to referrals and endorsements from other attorneys, former clients, accountants and financial advisors. Mr. Alcala works with attorneys and clients nationwide.
In 2006, Brett Alcala became an adjunct law professor at University of San Francisco School of Law lecturing on the subject of securities arbitration. Mr. Alcala is a member of the Board of Advisors to the USF law school's Investor Justice Clinic, a free legal clinic approved by FINRA that assists low-income investors with securities claims. In 2009, Mr. Alcala became co-director of the Investor Justice Clinic.
Mr. Alcala also holds a Series 65 (Investment Advisor) license and is registered as an investment advisor by the State of California. He has been admitted to practice law in California and Washington, D.C.; and also before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California; U.S. Court of Federal Claims; and U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit.
Mr. Alcala is a member of the San Mateo County Bar Association and the Public Investor Bar Association (PIABA). He is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law (J.D. 1986) and was editor of the Santa Clara Computer and High-Technology Law Journal (Volume 2).
